Aran Islands

The Aran Islands are located at the mouth of Galway bay, 30 miles from Galway itself. Irish tradition has it that Galway Bay was originally a lake, Loch Lurgan, which eroded its banks leaving the Aran Islands.

The Aran Islands are made up of three islands; Inis Mor, Inis Meain, and Inis Orr. The ancestral home of our branch of the Flaherty family came from the middle island, Inis Meain. A few years ago John Ruoff and his wife Ann visited the island and allowed these pictures to be posted.
